Movie Club is an organization based in Austin, Texas with a satellite office in Oakland, California. Each week, Chris, Stephanie, Kirk, Dylan, and Jesse (the members of Movie Club) meet to watch and discuss a film brought by the scheduled member based on a pre-selected theme. After 16 films we hold a bracket to determine the best of the grouping, and after 32 we create an award show called “The Caineys”(named after frequent MC actor Michael Caine) to honor performances, films, and everything in between.
Chris
Bruce Lee idolizer. Simpsons fanatic. Amateur sociologist. Social work grad student. My movies can often be traced back to one or more of these criteria. As Garth Algar once said, “I like to play”.
Stephanie
Style over substance. I can forgive a movie for an underdeveloped narrative with compelling visuals. I love a stylistic horror or a period piece, but also appreciate well done action, comedy and everything in between.
Dylan
Occasional comedian and improv coach. Alter ego of Kim Trails. 4-starred every level in Overcooked 2. All of my great ideas are stolen by rich NYC gays. I like films that remind me how devastating life is.
Jesse
Former acrobat and quasi-famous bus rider. I grew up in the THEATER. I put avocado on mac & cheese and I can make the only good latkes. My favorite films are just dialogue. Skol Vikings!
Kirk
I actually went to film school! I can prove it with all of my film knowledge, but please don't talk to me about movies. However, I am always up for talking about Björk! I like fearless directors and grand actress performances.
